Moving from the UK

So you’ve found your property. You’ve signed at the Notary. You’ve got the keys. And now the adventure really begins.

Whether you’ve bought a holiday home or are moving to Spain permanently, this will be one house move that you won’t forget. But what do you take with you? For sure all those personal things like pictures and keepsakes. But what about furniture, kitchenware and electricals.

As a rule of thumb most of your furniture you’ll have bought to fit into your existing home. Colours and styles will have been carefully chosen to suit the rooms and feel of your home. But will they look right in sunny Spain? And will the cost of moving them be worthwhile?

It’s tough but looking at your furniture with your mind on your Spanish home will really help you to decide if that three-piece suite, dinning table and chairs or bedroom furniture will not only literally fit into your new lifestyle but is it worth the cost of moving it?

Electrical goods are slightly different. On the whole small electrical goods tend to be slightly more expensive in Spain. And so long as you are prepared to buy adapter plugs so you can use them in Europe it makes sense to hang onto them.

Larger electrical goods however are about the same price. So as long as you haven’t recently invested in the latest washing machine, tumble dryer or super smart TV, it may be worth selling in the UK and using the cash to buy again in Spain.

And once you’ve packed up all those precious belongings you have the option of using the many folks who do regular, sometimes weekly, trips back and forth from Spain to the UK moving folks stuff for them. Some will even offer a price for a part load. They’ll even bring your pets over for you.
